What’s Trending in Garden Furniture?

Updated: 29/05/2025
At the time of writing, it’s February but our thoughts have turned to what’s trending in garden furniture. We love doing this because it’s a fabulous reason to forget we’re in the middle of winter. So, join us and see what we’re planning for the warmer months, here at JB Furniture.
Invest in good quality garden furniture
We would say that because that’s what we sell. But in these high price times, going down the cheap route with garden furniture is simply wasting money. We say invest in top quality garden furniture for one simple, but important reason: it’s a more sustainable decision – for you and your finances, and the planet.
We’re all trying to move away from a throwaway culture. So we sincerely hope you can benefit from our experience and buying expertise, and take advantage of the longer-lasting garden furniture options available: wonderful materials and designs available for the sake of the planet and your pocket. (And, as high-quality garden furniture invariably means low maintenance, there’s another saving: your time.)
In this blog we talk about three important trends for 2025:
1. Materials: wood, metal and synthetic materials remain popular choices for garden furniture but how are the premium brands using them in 2025?
2. Colours: we consider this year’s big colour – sand – and why it’s a winner for garden furniture.
3. Indoor outdoor vibe: blurring the lines between inside and outdoors is increasing in popularity, so we look at ways of achieving this.
1. Top materials for garden furniture
The very best natural and synthetic materials equal durability and style so we know you’ll get several seasons of use and pleasure from top brands such as 4 Seasons Outdoor, Maze & Bramblecrest garden furniture.
Proving to be popular this year is aluminium garden furniture, particularly garden furniture with a thick aluminium frame. The popular colour choices for this material are anthracite and sand.
Some materials will always be in fashion: for example rattan. New shapes and colours for seating and dining sets are launched each year by the top brands, and continue to be top sellers at JB Furniture. However, there’s always room for new materials...
Synthetic rope
Synthetic rope is set to be The Material of 2025 for garden furniture. Made from weather-resistant polypropylene, synthetic rope garden furniture is soft to the touch but has minimal stretch and is far from fragile. It combines flexibility and comfort to create functional and elegant garden furniture. Water-repellent, UV-resistant and colourfast, synthetic rope is definitely durable.

Lightweight aluminium
Lightweight, elegant and endlessly versatile, aluminium will always be a popular material for garden furniture. Thanks to its malleability, it can be shaped and moulded into various designs and contours. It can also be finished in a wide array of colours and textures suiting both traditional and modern garden settings. Finally, aluminium outdoor furniture can be mixed and matched with teak, glass and other materials.

Strong, durable teak
The durability and good looks of teak make it a popular material for garden furniture. Its initial golden-brown hue changes over time to an elegant silver-grey. Teak is hardwood with a close grain, so it’s very strong with a sturdy weight. This makes it ideal for furniture that stays outside from season to season. The nature of the grain helps the timber endure temperature variations without significant warping or cracking. The oils present in teak make it resistant to water, pests, mildew, fungal growth and mould.

Garden rope
Although we mentioned synthetic rope, there is a second kind of rope garden furniture that is proving to be popular. Weather-resistant rope gives garden furniture a modern and minimalist look whilst being highly weather resistant. Rope has a polypropylene base to ensure that stretch and moisture absorption are minimal. There are different types of rope available, such as flat rope or rounded rope; both types have the exact same weather-resistant properties but a different look. Flat rope is wider and tends to be thinner, whereas round rope can come in varying thicknesses. Garden rope is handwoven into intricate designs and knots to create different looks and aesthetics.

2. 2025 colours for garden furniture
This year’s colour is ‘sand’ – a great colour that works well on its own or with other natural tones such as earthy red. It also complements blue and grey tones. Another colour along the same lines for 2025, is ‘truffle’. It’s an elegant and chic colour, featuring a pinky grey undertone that will sit comfortably alongside both neutral and bold colour palettes (think pastel and dusky pinks, ivory and raspberry).
Stylists are complementing both key colours, either with accessories or a different piece of furniture to add interest and tone but without disrupting the flow. Though each brand has a slightly different take on this year’s colour themes, the common factor is in generating feelings of balance, groundedness, stability, and a comforting sense of home. Always welcome but especially important now.

Not to be forgotten is the eternally popular grey. Grey is a popular choice because it is highly versatile and complements a wide range of outdoor settings. Grey is a neutral tone that pairs well with outdoor greenery, flowers and many homes. Another reason grey is a favoured choice is due to how it weathers; many of our customers believe that grey doesn’t show dirt as easily as lighter colours do. Equally, many of our customers view grey as a modern colour that matches many decor trends such as minimalism.
The indoor outdoor vibe
The indoor outdoor vibe is proving to be more than a trend, it’s turning into something of a wellness movement. Anything that encourages you to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and natural environment is to be encouraged. You can achieve it easily with furniture and accessories that make you want to enjoy your outside and make best use of the space:
Go lightweight: choose aluminium-frames if you want to move furniture around the garden or in and out of your conservatory.
Go for comfort: whether you’re dining or lounging, buy furniture that looks good and feels comfortable.
Be outside-ready: so long as it’s dry, get outside. Parasols at the ready when it’s sunny, throws and fire pits for when it’s a bit chilly. Invest in a good set of covers for your furniture, and you’re outside-ready.

Sustainable choices
For many shoppers, sustainability is an important part of their buying decisions. Environmental awareness continues to shape consumer behaviour - manufacturers have recognised this and are striving to increase their sustainable practices.
Often overlooked is buying with long term goals in mind. It’s very easy to buy garden furniture with a lower price tag but often customers find that they replace the furniture yearly. However, if you invest in high quality garden furniture it will last for many years. Which is more sustainable and it is kinder to your wallet!
Sustainable materials
Many of the materials used in garden furniture manufacturing are eco-friendly and highly durable. One key example of this is aluminium. Aluminium is 100% recyclable and many of the aluminium ever produced is still in use today. All of our suppliers, such as Bramblecrest, use aluminium to create their furniture.

Alongside this, another popular sustainable material is synthetic rattan. Synthetic rattan is made from premium-grade recyclable polyethylene. Just like aluminium this material is incredibly durable and will withstand the test of time. For example, 4 Seasons Outdoor use Hularo weave to create their rattan furniture. Hularo is made by advanced machinery, and the colours are added at the early stages of manufacturing, ensuring the colour is present in the core. To reflect the quality of the material, 4 Seasons Outdoor offer a ten year warranty - this reinforces the idea we mentioned earlier that good quality furniture is made to last.
We can’t talk about sustainable garden furniture and not discuss teak. Teak has long been used to create garden furniture, and there is a reason for that. Simply put, teak is strong and durable. However, it is important to check that the teak has been sustainably sourced. Our suppliers pride themselves on supplying ethically sourced teak and as such 4 Seasons Outdoor and Bramblecrest teak are equipped with a legal FSC or an SVLK/V-legal certificate that complies with the current EUTR rules. These rules have been in place since 2013 to ensure that teak is only harvested from legal teak plantations.

The trees that are planted in these plantations are suitable for extraction after a minimum of 15 years. This method means that young trees convert CO2 into oxygen and the older trees are then cut down rather than being illegally logged.
Sustainable practices
Bramblcrest is a big advocate for sustainable materials and practices. In January 2022, they started working with Ecologi they plant a tree for every furniture set that is sold, Bramblecrest track this process through their website. To show a further commitment to sustainability, they have arranged to plant trees for the sets that they sold in 2021. Partnering with Ecologi has allowed Bramblecrest to support carbon offset projects and contribute to a more sustainable environment.
4 Seasons Outdoor also believes that sustainability is key; they are aware of the fact that they make products that require natural raw materials and energy to produce them. They are committed to encouraging an optimal production process to make sure that the environment is burdened as little as possible. To do this, they have introduced new practices such as reducing and separating the waste stream, reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption, and only using materials that are produced per legislation and regulations.
